Gender Observatory

Study and development of woman’s identity in history, politics and job field

The Gender Observatory, created as an internal structure of the "Mario Morbiducci" Institute for the History of the Resistance and Contemporary Age in Macerata, has various historical and socio-political objectives. In general terms, the centre aims to foster the revitalization of woman’s history and memory by collecting materials and works that reconstruct the political, civil and social identity of women within the territorial reality of Macerata’s province.

The collected documents and materials are divided according to the thematic areas to allow a more efficient circulation of information on the web. Furthermore, the institute organises and supports activities of scientific importance (seminars/conventions/researches) concerning the genre study in a more general sense.

In addition, the pieces of work, which mostly deal with historical and political themes, are periodically published to promote a genre knowledge in the province and the region. By supporting research, education and consulting activities as well as the distribution and availability of documents about women’s situation in the political, institutional and job world the institute aims to be a reference point for local authorities, associations, private organisations, scholars and researchers who have interest and are involved in highlighting the genre differences and promoting equal opportunities.

In order to fulfil its aims the institute relies on several collaborations and alliances made through the subscription of agreements expressing the intention to develop in an organized way the planned activities and the elaboration of projects for the province, region, nation and/or the community with the support of different subjects, either public or private.

The creation of a Gender Observatory that keeps together the historic, mainly archival-documentary, and the research aspect in a socio-political dimension is extremely necessary in a territory, like the city of Macerata that, at the moment, lacks  of a structure capable to create a connection among interdisciplinary perspectives on genre themes and also supports the realization of new researches and targets concerning the history of women in the political and the job sector.
